Pine Lakes Country Club

When Robert White was asked to design a course that would complement the famed Ocean Forest Hotel, he did just that. Unfortunately, the monumental hotel no longer stands but the classic course that first opened in 1929 remains. Despite renovations, the presence of the 1920s classic design is a consistent reminder of golf as it was in the old days and speaks volumes of its southern roots. Golfers from around the world frequent this golf course year after year thus making the Pine Lakes International Country Club a staple presence along the Grand Strand. Despite newer, more modern competitors, Pine Lakes continues to remind golfers that modern stylization is not a necessity in order to enjoy the game to its fullest. When Craig Schreiner took charge of the redesign of the course, he let his love of the game guide him so that the originality of the course would remain a consistent presence. Despite added architectural influence, it merely serves as a complement to the historic ingenuity of the original designer rather than overshadowing it. Pine Lakes boasts a Scottish feel and the once 16-hole course now houses two new, additional holes on the north end in order to entertain the fresh redesign of the course entrance. The nine holes originally created in the 1920s have remained almost entirely the same as they were before. The introduction of SeaDwarf Paspalum grass brings with it a sense of ingenuity because this type of grass requires less irrigation and is easier to maintain.

Probably the best course I've ever played. The oldest course in Myrtle Beach, it's set on what seems to be an old plantation. The grounds are immaculate, the course is VERY well taken care of and the staff is friendly and helpful. The course was in great shape even in February. The course was very challenging without making you want to rip your hair out on every hole. The staff loaded and unloaded our clubs and even wiped down our irons after our round, then recommended other good courses in the area. I will play this course every time I come to Myrtle Beach.

Always in good condition. All the building going on takes away from the aesthetics of once was a truly unique golf course. Greens are huge and challenging and the traps are consistent and playable. Very pricey off the street but if your here on vacation it should be on your list to play

Great course. A little pricey for a round but well worth it. Course was in excellent shape other than a couple of greens. I didn’t see any bad places in the fairways anywhere. Pace of play was pretty good as well. The staff actually dress up as far as the starter and bag drop guys. They do have a beer cart. I recommend this course. 11/6/22

Pine Lakes feels like home! As soon as you walk in to the event space you are welcomed by the beauty of the building. Everything about it is southern charm. My initial contact was Mary and Lyndsay helped us the rest of the way. We decided on passed hors d’oeuvres and a plated dinner for our 150 guests. The food was delicious! Our ceremony was out in the courtyard on a beautiful Oct. day. The wait staff was wonderful. They even looked for and found my lost earring!! Initially I was worried about the division between the two ballrooms but it turned out beautifully as we had dinner in one room and danced the night away in the other. There are only a few things to be aware of when using this venue (and maybe any venue). Make sure to call the day of the event to confirm that doors will be unlocked promptly at 9:00, read your event paperwork carefully as there is a 22% service charge with 9% tax on that service charge included in the final bill. The last thing is to make sure you tell the banquet manager the order that you would like your guests to be served. These are not complaints, just a heads up! This venue is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and very reasonable. I highly recommend it! You will not be disappointed!!

The course was in good condition, but that is not my complaint. When we paid online to book our tee time, there was no notice stating that we would be paired with another group to make a foursome. It ended up being a slow round because one guy was playing from tee #4, my partner and I were playing from #3, and a lady was playing from lady tees. Not to mention, when we came around on the back nine we got stopped up because the club was sending out new parties on the back nine first. For a 7:48 tee time there is no reason that the club should be squeezing as many people on the course as possible as if it’s twilight. All for $90. The course was in good condition and no complaints, but I’ve had far better experiences for $90.

Conflicted on review. Liked the course, staff was good, but took 5 hours to play a round. Granted, was a Sunday afternoon, but nobody on course to "urge" people to pick up the pace. Improvements to course from a couple of years ago definitely a plus. Greens were very nice, but people definitely not fixing their ball marks on the green, or many of them, anyway.

Course was in great shape and looked amazing. However, the new construction of homes being done takes away from the beauty of the course. We had great pace of play on the front 9, but it came to a screeching crawl on the back. When we were heading to 14 we stopped at the pro shop and got a drink at the bar because their were 4 groups in front of us on the hole. It took 25 minutes for us just to play 14. Greens were a little slow for my taste. Still a course you need to play, but not one I will need to play again.

I would have given a 5, but there's a lot of construction on the peripherals of the front nine making it rather noisy and taking away the scenic quality of this older course. The course was in a great shape. The greens were pristine. The back nine is more scenic. Fairly open course, with a terrific, friendly staff.

Highly recommend this course. It was in immaculate condition. There were a good number of people playing, but didn't have any issues with rate of play. All of the staff, drink girl and Marshall's were super helpful and nice. At the turn they even had a little mimosa bar, giving out free drinks. They course was great for us hackers and challenging at times for the better golfer with us. Nice clubhouse and pro shop. Think we are going to make this one of our staples when we come MB to play.

I played Pine Lakes golf course on 9/27/21. The course was in great condition. The staff was friendly. The price for the round was expensive, as The Founders Group increased the price by 35 percent earlier this month, as they now consider this course a premium course. The pace of play was way too slow. There were no rangers on the course. I advised the General Manager/Golf Pro that I will not be returning due to the high price and slow play. ???????

Course was very nice but the staff was the worst. We had a group of 61 guys that played and the starter would come out and tell you that you were behind and want to argue with you. Previous review about poor conditions are most likely accurate but course came back real nice (Clark). Played today. Fairways, rough and tee boxes were perfect. Greens were true and rolled 8-9 with minimal remnants of top dressing. Holding the greens was a challenge even with a true struck 56 degree spinner. Staff was top notch. Played 18 in under 4 hours. Don’t hesitate based on previous reviews. Course was great and greens are 80%…still better than any muni course you might play at home.

This very easily could've gotten 5 stars. However, at the time that I played (during a package deal) the greens were nothing but packed down sand with no grass. They looked as if they were recently aerated, as well. The staff is friendly and very helpful for the most part. The clubhouse is nice but gear inn pro shop is a little overpriced. Nevertheless, we had a good time. It will be what you make it. Truly an honor to play the "Granddaddy"!

The club was nice and the staff was pleasant. The course was not in good shape. I understand dormant grass, but the greens were painted green mud. The sand traps were horrible and believed me, I played out of a few them.(lol). It is definitely living off the history. The course is not worth the price. We have played 3 other courses this week and all 3 were in much better shape. I won't play again and recommend you passing on this one also, unless you just want to say I played the grand daddy.

Great golf course but the starter harassed us before we even teed off. I'l be honest, as soon as he saw my golf bag with a PITT logo, he smarted off about "you're not playing up North, so don't even try to read the greens, just putt and pick up". I had to tell him that I've played the real "Grandddy" in St. Andrews and jut came back from playing in Ireland.

I’ve played Myrtlewood Pone Hills and Palmetto a couple times in January plus Myrtle Beach Nation West Nd South and River Club and Willbrook. They seem to think their course doesn’t stink.

Played Saturday November 19 , 2019 , 12:20 Tee time , took just under FIVE hours to,play . Many long waits as course backs up on number 2 and number 11 , both par threes . On number two we were the third group when we got there . All through the front nine waited on every tee. , finally seemed to space out on number 9 , but when we got to 10 th Tee again we were the third group waiting . Spoke to a Marshall off to the side and was told someone must have stopped for a sandwich ?? Played 11, 12, and 13 all with waits on the tee . When we got to the 14th tee we where the FOURTH group on the tee . Walked to the pro shop , no one in sight as now 4:10 , found a gentleman in an office to ask just what was going on , was told he would find someone and find out ?? Not sure he ever did ! As he was looking out the pro shop window golf carts were coming back in the wrong direction from hole # 14 , he asked me what was going on ? Turns out it was other frustrated golfers LEAVING ! Played the remaining holes although very aggravating , good news was we played with a nice gentleman named Harry , he stated emphatically that he would never be back . The only reason we got finished was because at least two other groups ahead of us left in frustration. We payed pretty well and had a decent score but it was like playing 9 two hole games 30 minutes apart from one another . Very over rated course , the greens looked great but where very very very slow , do not waist your time playing here as there are so many other good choices , they seem to get enough play that they just don' t care !! Overheard one of the cart guys at the end saying there was a group of 24 non golfers who emptied the beverage cart, managed to have her cater to them ( likely good for tips ) . Beautiful weather but a very irritating round of golf . WILL DEFINITELY NEVER GO BACK and will tell every golfer I know not to play here !! Gary Barden

Fairways are wide and in decent shape but they are way too soft! There is no bounce or roll. Greens are large and in good shape. They are mostly flat except the edges. Overall, it’s an average course. It’s overpriced but it is a country club style course so you have a guy who carries your clubs to the cart, another guy who loads your clubs into the cart and a guy who wipes them down when you finish. Be ready to tip all three. The club house people weren’t welcoming but the guys outside are friendly. Three star course that loses a star over the price. As you’ve read in other reviews, you can’t take your cart to drop your clubs at your car in the parking lot.

Greens are in terrible shape. We had the first tee time thinking we could play fast. What they don’t tell you is they make you play with others, that’s fine but then they send people off both sides. They insured us we would play a 4 hr round and now we are gonna play 5 hr round of golf. This course is not about the experience but about the money. We hit and wait every single hole. Course is not nice enough to sit and wait. Course does not have any drinking water on it and we have seen the drink cart once. Pay a little extra money and go somewhere else.

This is the 3rd course we have played in myrtle beach this week and we were shocked at the shape of the greens....4 are pitifully patched and most of the others are rough due to the ball marks (although one of the staff said they will grow back in about 3 weeks....lol, not much help to us today). It was also the least challenging and definitely not worth the cost. If you care about the shape of the greens and bunkers (all wet) play somewhere else.

Tee'd off at with another pair of amateurs to make a foursome and was asked to leave the course on the 13 th hole for "playing too slow" and they said they were closing the course even though there was quite a few more hours of daylight. (And other members). Ruined our game and we were on vacation from canada. Asked for money back and was turned down. This is an old boys club and is run by old Scotsmen with no customer service skills. ( especially you tommy). Wouldn't recommend this course and was I'm terrible shape to begin with. Thanksgiving dinner. Food was amazing, it was served buffet style. All the fixings and desserts. Can't comment on the desserts, I was too full from the meal.

The fairways were in excellent condition compared to other MB golf properties. Greens putted true, but were very slow. Bargain greens fee for the quality of the course, and the courtesy of the staff. Left my putter somewhere on the front nine(!), but one of the bag guys looked for it and ran it out to me. Couldn't be more appreciative. The cart-girl was always there for us when refreshments were needed. Fast play for a 4.5 hour round.

This is a must to play for anyone that hasn’t been there. My 15 year old son and I arrived on Saturday Nov 3 and went straight to Pine Lakes. What a treat. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Lovely golf course and will definitely be back again.

Due to the rain lately this course was cart path only today. It plays long and the greens are slow. The club house has great food.

I had a great time on this course and the service was even better!! I accidentally left a nice wind jacket on my cart after the round and called Christian in the club house and they sent it back to me via UPS the next day free of charge. I live in another state so it would have been lost to me. Thank You Christian.

Played this summer with a group of golfers from NC. The course was in very good condition. This is one of our favorite courses due to not hard and not to easy. Just right for high handicappers.

Everything I saw about this course frightened me, but the negative reviews couldn’t not have been more inaccurate (unless management changed). Friendly staff, nice bag guys. The course was immaculate, finished 18 holes in 3.5 hours even with groups ahead of us. 9/10 would recommend

Pine Lakes is a Grand Strand stalwart. The greens were recently aerated thus a little bumpy. A week from now they will be perfect. The rest of the course from tees to greens was excellent. Being a local, I always look forward to playing here (3-4 times/year) and I'm never disappointed. Played from the #3 tees, the course was full and the round was 4 1/2 hours.

A gorgeous course that is all too easy to overlook, as its nestled between 17 Bus and Robert Grissom Parkway. With lush, wide-open fairways and fast greens, Pine Lakes soothes you with its beauty even if you're 9 over after your first three holes. The front nine is park-like; the back nine is set against a backdrop of hotels, a very cool reminder that you're at the beach. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They always make us feel like they're happy to see us.
