Tidewater Golf Plantation
Tidewater Golf Club and Plantation, designed by Rees Jones and Ken Tomlinson, is a course giant that rests among the idyllic setting of the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove. The course compliments its natural surroundings and evokes a sense of unwavering dedication to the game of golf and the inspirations of Mother Nature. From the time players step foot onto the course to the time they putt out, this course delivers one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences along the Grand Strand. Before designing the course, Tomlinson went out in order to gather inspiration and found it in traditional legends such as Merion and Pine Valley. Rather than corrupt the natural setting of the course, Tomlinson and Jones designed it in perfect harmonious balance to the natural contours of the landscape. Both men agreed that they would not use artificial elements since the natural elements of the landscape created enough of a challenging golf experience. Golfers from all around the country appreciate the seamless marriage between Tidewater and its surroundings as well as the great many challenges faced on each hole played. The course offers stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway, which encompasses several holes, and plenty of saltwater marshlands and an ocean inlet. This course is marked as an exemplary guide to the traditional game of golf and golf design. Thick surroundings of towering hardwoods bring to mind thoughts of New England's most renowned golf clubs while also creating an abundant challenge for players that boast brave shots off the tee.

Overall Rating: 8/23/2022Tidewater is one of OUR favorites. I play with a group of 20 locals, and everybody loves Tidewater. The sticking point is price. If you catch a deal, everything is good. Walk-ins at $100 plus and it stings a little. With so many good courses in the area, I'd wait until you find Tidewater at a discount.
That being said, they take good care of the place. Even after aerification, the greens played fair. Grass is neat and bare spots few and far between. The rough can be punishing, but im told were supposed to be in the fairway!
Clean, neat, friendly staff, fun layout. Only the stock in the pro shop gets low marks.

I have been playing golf in the Carolinas for decades and made the trip down to Tidewater from Ocean Isle Beach and it was well worth it! Each hole was well thought out and enjoyed it more than Thistle, River's Edge and Tiger's Eye for comparison. Thanks again and will add this to the annual rotation of golf courses :)

Not certain if it’s related to the 9-minute tee times or just people not getting pushed along, but it was to the point of being difficult to enjoy. It would be hard to suggest someone unless this was just an anomaly. Hopefully that’s the case.

Co dictions were great on the course…greens were firm but would hold an approach shot. No quirky holes but made you think your strategy off the tee because of distance and hazards. Nicely equipped pro shop and nice snack bar. Guys in pro shop were great and very friendly. I will definitely play here again !!

Some of the pin placements make it even tougher and seems to back play up. 5 plus hours kind of kills the fun. Great views on several of the holes.

If anything, disappointed we didnt get to finish the round to see the rest. This was my first time around this track and couldnt be more impressed. A really great golf experience!

When I inquired at the pro shop, one of the reasons I received was they had 240 golfers that day. We never saw a Marshal on the last 15 holes. It's a shame, such a great course for such a lousy golfing experience.

Views are nice, greens are nice, fairways are decent. But pace of play sucks. I wrote this review, took pictures and uploaded them while waiting on the green to clear.

Overall Rating: 5/13/2022Was not a $180 golf course. Each green had about 15 hole marks within a 5ft radius. Why not use the same one if there at 2 that are 6 inches apart. Terrible greens for $180. Also, paid for 2 and the proshop allowed my partner to pay for 2. So we paid ffir 2 extra. Called and emailed and said there was nothing they could do. Don’t waste your time or money. Much better courses in Myrtle.

It is a tremendous course but over seeded and watered like crazy plus cart-path only. the fairways have far to many patches of bare dirt to go along with minimal grass. Greens aren't rolled and they are beat up. Very disappointing conditions had a friend come to play this course specifically- not worth 40 bucks certainly not 90 plus - will not play here again

Overall Rating: 11/25/2021Have been coming to MB to golf around Thanksgiving week for ~20 years and this is the worst I've ever seen Tidewater. I love the layout, and when it is in decent condition it is worth the $. It is about a $70 course when they overseed and water like crazy and are cart-path only. This year they have waited and the fairways have been vacuumed/brushed so there are intermittent patches of bare dirt to go along with minimal grass. Greens aren't rolled and they are beat up. Sad to say but I'm going to take it off my rotation in years to come. Barely worth $50 and nothing near the $127 they are charging.

(Over 1 1/2 months) Greens were perfect, fast and receptive. Yes there were some hard fairways, but that just meant more roll on a very difficult golf course. Will always come back.
Tip: Buy the group photo....For $20 it’s mounted on a wood plaque and worth every penny as an inexpensive souvenir. Also, watch out for snakes. ??yikes

Played on 8/2/2020. Course was in overall very good shape but was being closed to aerate the greens starting afternoon of 8/2/20. Course has several holes along the waterway with great views and is one of the better courses in myrtle beach. Two reasons this didn’t get 5 stars is that tee times appeared to be on 9 minute spacing and tee sheet was full so pace of play was poor; our round took just over 5 hours. Secondly , somewhat minor but many of the edges of the holes hadn’t been maintained and were damaged/worn which made putting more difficult. Played with a member and they said they hadn’t been touched in a few days, likely because of the upcoming aeration. I feel they should have been maintained better since they had a full tee sheet on the last day.

Course is in immaculate condition from tee to green and arrival to departure. Had my best round of the week at Tidewater. Only gripe is the 18th hole, Belleme’s Bend. I hit a good tee shot to face a blind shot. Hit a layup only to find another blind shot to the green. This hole is very different from the other holes. I’ll know better next time.

I challenge anyone to play 18 at Tidewater on one day and then 36 at Legends Heathland and Moorland the next day with a free breakfast, free lunch, and 2 drinks included for the same price as just 18 at Tidewater and tell me which day you think was better.

Overall Rating: 7/25/2019Great course. I have been playing this course for over 20 years. One suggestion, put the sea oats/lake grass back on holes 6, 10, and 14. Those holes look very bland with out it. Originally that grass made those holes look great. Troon never should have cut that out.

Overall Rating: 7/17/2019Stayed in a apartment through a rental company. When we got to our apartment the bathroom was dirty. There was a used rag hanging over the shower rod. The shower was not cleaned good. Not sure if the comforter was washed...it had stains on it. There was someone else's shoes under the bed. I didn't even want to sleep in the bed.

We arrived 45 minutes early for our tee time and we were rushed to tee off 20 minutes early because another group didn't show and they made us feel like we were holding them up. Proceeded to follow a 5 some for a 5 plus hour round.

Overall Rating: 4/26/2019Played Apr 22nd, $125 for cart and green fees. Overall, I’d give it a 7. I wouldn’t return. The bunkers were inconsistent, grass around green and bunkers was stressed/dead spots, houses are very close to the fairways which didn’t add to a relaxed feeling. Fairways were very hard which if you take divots, means your not taking divots, tee areas were in great condition and greens were in very good condition, a little fuzzy though, could be cut and rolled. They need to start adding a top dressing of sand to soften fairways and pay attention to the smaller details around the greens. Back 9 was my favorite. A few holes had great views of the water, but, it just isn’t as impressive as I wanted it to be, a little let down.

Overall Rating: 4/25/2019This past weekend, our group of 16 took our annual golf trip to the Myrtle Beach area. We played Tidewater about 5 years ago, and while we loved the layout and views, we felt that the greens weren’t as good as they should’ve been, especially for a course of its caliber. So, we decided to give it another shot this time because we did like the layout so much. Unfortunately, we came away feeling the same way. The greens were bumpy, inconsistent, and the holes looked like they had been cut with a jigsaw.
Tidewater has a lot going for it, but the greens right now aren’t great. (FYI...also take bug spray b/c the “no-see-ums” are really bad).
As a result, this will be our last trip to Tidewater. We just can’t justify spending close to $200 for a course with subpar putting surfaces.

Overall Rating: 3/12/2019Just voted best course in the entire MB area reported by WMBF News yesterday. This course is in the best shape this winter in years. Fairways are perfect. Sand traps well maintained and a lot of grass on Bermuda greens for February. In response to a prior post, I have never read a derogatory comment about the staff before and have always been treated better than any course around. The views are great, especially at high tide. Just play the tees that are right for your handicap and you'll enjoy the day much better. It's much more difficult than the index/slope ratings indicate.

Greens were slow and bumpy but that was to be expected for this time of year. Staff is very friendly, don’t know why some of the other posts had issues with the staff. I would go again and highly recommend.

Was concerned at first about green conditions, but was greatly pleased that their greens looked and rolled great. Layout is long but I adjusted after a couple of holes by moving to a more suitable tee marker. Would highly recommend this course. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Overall Rating: 8/31/2018Wow. Did I say wow. What a great course. Was in good shape. Beautiful looking course. Can see ocean from a distance on par 5 13th hole. Par 3s are really nice and challenging. I shoot about a 90. The course is fair in my opinion as far as scoring. Lots of danger but fair amount of room to stay out of danger. There are some holes where wind can play a little tougher and because of course location it will have some holes where wind is always there. 18 the played longer then what it says. I got on this summer for 60 dollars and that was a steal. Played this course a few times and I love it.

Whatever they did over the winter worked. Greens (and the rest of the course) are in great shape, especially compared to other courses. Layout is terrific, scenery the best in MB. Must play!
